Edge Group Scotland Joins Forces with OutdoorClassrooms.scot
At Edge, outdoor learning has never been an “extra”.
It’s part of how confidence is built. How responsibility develops. How practical skills become real, transferable progress.
That’s why we’re incredibly excited to be working with OutdoorClassrooms.scot as part of the continued growth of Edge Woods and our wider outdoor learning provision.
From the very first conversations, it was clear there was a huge amount of shared thinking between both organisations — particularly around inclusive outdoor education, practical learning, wellbeing, sustainability, and creating meaningful opportunities for young adults to engage with the world around them.
Collaboration Already Taking Shape in Edge Woods
And already, that collaboration is beginning to take shape in Edge Woods.
Working directly alongside our teams and young adults, Rachel from OutdoorClassrooms.scot has already been supporting a range of hands-on outdoor projects that combine creativity, environmental learning, teamwork and practical skills in a genuinely engaging and accessible way.
Recent work has included:
Creating handcrafted tree identification signs using reclaimed pallet wood
Developing ideas for sensory planting areas featuring herbs such as lavender, rosemary and mint
Planning natural outdoor classroom and learning spaces within Edge Woods
Exploring sustainable and repurposed materials for practical bushcraft-style projects
Supporting collaborative, outdoor-based learning experiences shaped around participation and responsibility
A Space Shaped by Participation and Creativity
One of the things we’ve loved most already is how collaborative the process has been.
Ideas have come directly from conversations with the groups themselves — helping shape projects that are practical, creative and meaningful to the young adults taking part.
It reflects exactly what Edge Woods was always intended to be: not simply an outdoor area, but a living, evolving environment shaped by the people who use it.
Looking Ahead
The collaboration also brings additional expertise, creativity and outdoor learning experience into the project at an incredibly exciting stage of development, helping us continue building something that is inclusive, ambitious and genuinely different.
We’re hugely grateful to Stewart, Rachel and the wider OutdoorClassrooms.scot team for sharing our vision and becoming part of the journey.
There’s still a huge amount to come as Edge Woods continues to grow — creating new opportunities for outdoor learning, practical skills, confidence and progression.
