🌳 Edge Woods

Rooted in Community, Growth, and Opportunity

As we head towards our tenth birthday, this is an exciting time of growth and evolution β€” marking a decade of innovation, progress, and life-changing support for young adults who are autistic and/or have additional support needs (ASN).

We’re delighted to officially launch Edge Woods β€” our newest development that will transform part of our Eskmills campus into a vibrant outdoor learning and wellbeing space.

Rooted in sustainability, inclusion, and hands-on experience, Edge Woods reflects our commitment to meaningful, practical learning that builds confidence, purpose, and connection with the natural world. It’s a place where our young adults can learn, create, and grow β€” and where the wider community will soon be able to get involved too.

β€œEdge Woods represents everything we believe in at Edge β€” learning that’s practical, inclusive, and rooted in the real world. It’s already transforming the way our young adults engage with their environment, giving them a sense of pride, purpose, and ownership. Thanks to the support of Eskmills, East Lothian Works, and our wider community, we’re creating something truly special that will continue to grow and benefit many for years to come.” β€” Sam Roberts, Managing Director, Edge Group Scotland

A Unique Space in East Lothian

Set within the grounds of Eskmills in Musselburgh, Edge Woods is unlike anything else in East Lothian β€” a dedicated outdoor space designed for real-world learning, skill development, and community connection.

Our thanks go to Eskmills, whose generosity has made this possible by allowing us to bring an unused area of the estate back to life. The site is already transforming, with dedicated zones already taking shape through the hard work of our programme participants and staff team.

β€œWe’re thrilled to support Edge Group Scotland in bringing Edge Woods to life,” said Scott Gorman-Cochrane, Customer Service & Operations Manager at Eskmills. β€œThis partnership not only enhances the environment here at Eskmills but also brings lasting social value to the wider community. It’s inspiring to see young people gaining hands-on experience while creating something that everyone can enjoy.”

Supported by the Community β€” and Growing Together

This project wouldn’t be possible without the support of our wider community. From local businesses to generous individuals, we’ve been overwhelmed by the donations of tools, materials, and equipment that have helped us get started.

Our young adults have taken real ownership of the space β€” rolling up their sleeves to clear, clean, and prepare the area for what comes next. Every day brings visible progress, and the pride on their faces says it all.

If you’d like to get involved, visit our Support Edge Woods page to see what items we’re currently looking for. We’re always happy to give a second life to pre-loved garden tools, materials, or equipment β€” helping us grow sustainably while keeping waste out of landfill.

Looking Ahead

Edge Woods will play a central role in the next stage of Edge Group Scotland’s evolution. Alongside this, we’re introducing accredited vocational qualifications to recognise the real-world skills and achievements our young adults develop every day β€” from horticulture and environmental awareness to teamwork, problem-solving, and enterprise.

These qualifications will strengthen pathways into further education, training, and employment β€” opening up new opportunities for the individuals we support and the communities we work within.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Funded through East Lothian Works’ No One Left Behind initiative, Edge Woods is designed to benefit not only those on our programmes but the local area as a whole. This support is enabling us to expand what we offer, create new opportunities, and continue to help more young adults on their journey to independence.

As the seasons change, so too will Edge Woods β€” evolving into a space that reflects the creativity, resilience, and determination of everyone involved.

We’re incredibly excited about what the future holds and look forward to welcoming our community to the official opening in Spring 2026 β€” or sooner if we get a wriggle on!
